Romans 15: 7-13
Therefore recieve one another, just as Christ also recieved us, to the glory of God.
8/ Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers,
9/ and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written:
" For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles , and sing to Your name."
10/ And again he says:
" Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people!
11/ And again:
" Praise the Lord , all you Gentiles! Laud Him, all you peoples!"
12/ And again, Isaiah says:
" There shall be a root of Jesse; And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, In Him the Gentiles shall hope. "
13/ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
First I want to give you the meaning of Gentiles both from the Strongs Concordance and the Noah Webster Dictionary.
First from the Strongs Concordance:
Number 1484 in the Greek.
The word is Ethnos pernounced eth' nos
means a race ie. a tribe, Exspecially Foreign, ( non -Jewish)
Usally by implication Pagan.
Gentile , heathen, nation,people.
From the Noah Webster Dictionary.
The Noah Webster has two uses of this word, One as an adjective and one as a noun.
First the Adjective meaning: 1/ Of or pertaining to a nation, gens, or clan. 2/ Gram. Denoting racial, national, or local extraction: said of a noun or adjective. 3/ Heathen; pagan. --n 1Gram. noun or an adjective denoting race, country, etc. 2 in Roman law, a member of gens or clan.
Now the Noun meaning: 1/ Amoung the Jews, one of a non-Jewish people; one not a Jew. 2/ Among Christians: A/ One who is not a Jew; a pagan. B? A Christian, especially one formerly a pagan. 3/ Among the Mormons, a non-Mormon.--adj.
1/ Pertianing to or Characteristic of a non - Jewish people. 2/Belonging to or like Christians, as distinguished from Jews. 3/ Of or pertianing to non-Mormons.
From both these meanings we can say that a Gentile is anyone not of the Jewish race. Or Israelite race God's chosen people. In the scripture above It shows that now we who are not of the Israelite race can also be God's children we can worship Him and Pray and be called His own. Jesus died not just for the Jews but all mankind , He came to the world to give us all hope . If we believe in Him and the Father and Holy Spirit. If we trust and rely on Him Our God. We must come together with the Jewish people and Praise God together. God opened the Doors wide for us to Follow Him , Our Father loves us as much as He loves the Israelites . They are an example to us.
While reading through the old testament . I was feeling kinda jealous of Israel. I asked God why if they are His chosen people , why do the rest of us get left out. and why are we even here. Then God showed me this scripture and the reason Jesus came. It was to set all mankind free and give salvation to the whole world all who would believe on Him and follow Him. So yes Israel are a special people , but like in the old testament they must follow God. When ever they turned from God they were punished . and removed. Likewise all the wickedness of this world will be punished and removed in the end time. I may be a gentile but I am a child of God . And Like everyone else who is a child of God , He will guide me and He will discipline me and He will love me . The only way to have that hope and salvation is through Jesus Christ who died for our sins. His blood shed so that we could be forgiven and live our lives accordingly. No one said being a believer would be easy , we will all fall short and all stumble from time to time. But with Jesus we can pick ourselves up and go on in Him. Thank You Father for Your great mercy and grace. Thank You for Your amazing Love. amen and amen.
