WARRIOR ANGELS LITERALLY FIGHT IN THE HEAVENLIES OVER THINGS THAT OCCUR ON THE EARTH. FOR THE EARTHLY BATTLE, THERE IS A HEAVENLY BATTLE ABOVE.
How about the other side of warrior angels? They are primarily spiritual warriors who fight in the Heavenlies over the things that occur on Earth. One of the greatest examples you see in scripture is from Daniel 10, when Daniel had been given a vision and had fasted a pleasant food fast for 21 days until the answer from the Lord came.
The angel had come through spiritual resistance trying to keep the answer from getting through until Daniel had given up. I know I have already covered this from the other angle, but please don't give up before the answer comes. Understand that these kings of Grecia and Persia and the fallen principalities of the Grecian Empire (Alexander) and the Persian Empire.
Ephesians 6:10-12 " 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. "
These principalities were the evil spiritual kings of these oppressive evil empires.
On the other side, Michael who is mentioned is the King or archangel of the Kingdom and people of Israel. The Holy Principality of the House of Israel, Michael the Archangel. But I want you to see the sheer warfare that is involved here between the hosts of Heaven and the hosts of Hell.
Arche... prince or principality or king... angels have a hierarchy of authority.
Daniel 10:12-13 " 12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. "
Daniel 10:20-21 " 20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come. 21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and [there is] none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince. "
The prophet prayed for 21 days... that is why it is so important that you pray... God will send reinforcements and strengthen His own forces when you pray. He prayed until the Lord sent Michael, and Michael withstood the King of Persia.
You see Michael fighting several times in scripture. We know from Daniel 12, that he is the prince angel or archangel of Israel.
Daniel 10:21 " But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and [there is] none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince. "
Daniel 12:1 " And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. "
And when you see angelic battles involving Israel, he gets involved. If you will look at Revelation 12 to the time when Satan and all of his fallen angels are bound to the Earth and barred from Heaven.... you see a battle occurring. Revelation 12:7-10
We pray against the fallen angelic forces, and you might not see it, but angels respond to the direction of the Holy Spirit. Angels have a very active role in our warfare, and when we pray they are released to help us in our fight of faith. We might not have a clear understanding of their roles in our warfare, but we are assured that they are there and are very active.
THE ARMIES OR HOSTS OF HEAVEN WERE MANY, MANY ANGELS IN THE ARMY OF THE LORD.
They are the Hosts of Heaven that you read about. I realize that sometimes that the term host of heaven has to do with the stars and planets, and sometimes it's the angels of Heaven that is referenced. There is significance to the term The Lord of Hosts that God calls Himself from time to time.
LOOK at THIS: 1 Kings 22:19; Hebrews 12:22; Daniel 7:10; Psalm 68:17; Revelation 5:11
THE LORD OF HOSTS
He is the Lord of Hosts, and the hosts of Heaven serve Him, from the most common angel ( if any angel can be called common ) to the cherubim who stand around His throne... Isaiah 37:15-16 " 15 And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying, 16 O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest [between] the cherubim, thou [art] the God, [even] thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth. "
Here the Lord of hosts (of angels) is cutting out idolatry and causing the false prophets and demons to pass out of the land. The title Lord of Hosts is deliberate here. This is spiritual warfare.
Zechariah 13:2 " And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, [that] I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land. "
One last thing that we need to look at before we leave this section, there is an instance in Joshua when they had just crossed over the flooding Jordan River on dry ground as the Lord stopped the waters, and they happened upon this man with a drawn sword. The question here is this, is this a high ranking angel in the Lord's army, or a epiphany of the Son of God Himself. The answer is not readily handy for you can look at the experience one of two ways: Joshua 5:13-15
He was a prince or captain... the same word in archangel... a prince angel. And he was standing with a sword in his hand... a warrior angel, and was in charge of armies in heaven. The argument is that when Joshua fell down and began to worship, that if he was an angel he would have stopped him. But it does not say that Joshua actually worshiped this being, but worshiped... as in worshiping God. If this was just an angel and Joshua had tried to worship him, he would have stopped him. SO, it is open to debate and not totally clear. If this was an angel, then he must be an archangel and might possibly be Michael since this concerned Israel. I know Jesus is referred to in Revelation and even in Psalms as having a great two-edged sword, but in Revelation it is a sword that proceeds out of His mouth.
There is also the term we use known as Guardian Angels, who watch over us. This is another form of warrior angels who watch over our lives. Psalm 91:10-11; Psalm 34:7
Another kind of angel, although guardian angels could be put into this category as well are Ministering Angels.
Jesus has done more for us than he does for the angels. He has not told them that they can sit at His right hand, and yet we are joint-heirs with Christ. But the angels are ministering spirits that minister to us who are the heirs.
Hebrews 1:13-14 " 13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? "
When the church prays, God sometimes chooses to use angels. Especially when it cannot come through a natural means. Look at what happened in Acts, when Herod was going to execute Peter and the church was praying all night for him. Acts 12:6-10
ANGELS MINISTER TO THE NEEDS OF GOD'S PEOPLE AT TIMES.
1 Kings 19:5-7 " 5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise [and] eat. 6 And he looked, and, behold, [there was] a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. 7 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise [and] eat; because the journey [is] too great for thee. "
Jesus was ministered to by angels... Mark 1:13 " And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
Angels many times impersonate people and help us in our journeys. That is why some have entertained them unawares.
