Angels stand before God in His glory and do Him service... they are many times used as messengers.... such as to the parents of great deliverers or prophets such as in the births of Samson, John the Baptist, and of course Jesus Christ. Sometimes they bring the understanding to prophets such as in Daniel's case. In the case of Samson's parents' case you see the angel of the Lord appearing and exhibiting some interesting things....
He gives the message of their son to be born first to Samson's mother, and then to his father Manoah. Judges 13:13-14
Then, he refused to eat with them but told them instead to offer a sacrifice to God and not unto him - Judges 13:16
Then he wouldn't tell him his name because he said it was a secret (Hebrew means wonderful or incomprehensible). They just wouldn't understand it if he told them his name - Judges 13:18 " And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it [is] secret? "
Notice the power and countenance of this angel to the wife of Manoah. Judges 13:6 " Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance [was] like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he [was], neither told he me his name: "
The angels carry the glory of God upon them:
Luke 9:26; Matthew 28:2-6 " 2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead [men]. 5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. 6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. "
Point to Ponder: Moses spent 40 days and nights in the personal presence of the Lord and his face glowed from absorbing this glory and scared the people so that they had to veil him. What about angels that stand around the glory of the Lord in that dimension we call the 3rd Heaven? Why shouldnt they glow with Gods glory? They have been absorbing it as well!
They are powerful and immortal beings. They are created beings and will not die.
There is a scripture which talks about the Lake of Fire being created for Satan and his angels. The reason it is so horrible is that its made for created beings who knew God in a personal way and fell who by reason of the way that they are created cannot die. The lake of fire is the second death, but it is an eternal punishment for it is made for immortal beings. You don't want to follow them there. Matthew 25:41 " Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: "
LUKE 20:33-36 MAKES AN IMPORTANT POINT ABOUT OUR FUTURE NATURE... COMPARING OUR FUTURE GLORIFIED BODY TO THAT OF AN ANGELS BODY.
The angels cannot die... and in our resurrected body, neither will we! We shall be equal to the angels... or "like the angels".
Luke 20:33-36 (KJV) " 33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife. 34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. "
Luke 20:33-36 (NAS) " 33 "In the resurrection therefore, which one's wife will she be? For all seven had her as wife."
34 And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage,
35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage;
36 for neither can they die anymore, for they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection."
It is speaking of being like the angels in that they are immortal. Some have said that angels are genderless from this scripture... we already noticed that there are no female angels in scripture, and that they all seem to be male. But some have taken this and said, they dont have sexual relations in heaven, so they have no gender. NO... that is stretching it, for they do all seem to be male that we see examples of in scripture.
Could there be female angels as shown in artwork and fantasy? Possibly, but we see no biblical examples of such. Does that mean that they do not have gender? NO. They simply do not give themselves in marriage in Heaven. And when we are glorified and resurrected, we will be operating in a higher plane of existence... a spiritual one where that is left behind. We see from Jude and Peter and Genesis that some have indeed fallen into sexual sin with human beings in the past... a kind of genetic manipulation by these higher beings that produced the nephilim and wound them up bound in the abyss or bottomless pit for that sin.
So, do we lose our gender in Heaven as some have claimed? NO! The Word makes it clear that your new body will be in the form of the old one, just immortal and pure. We become the children of the resurrection.
They are very Powerful compared to human beings:
2 Peter 2:11 - however they are meek before God in not railing against their former fellow fallen angels.
Jude 1:9- this shows this, Michael is one of the most powerful angels ever created as an archangel, but he came against Satan in the name of the Lord, not in his own power. It is a good lesson for us.        He stood against Satan in Gods authority, and not his own. Yet, Michael is a very powerful angel and someday will war against Satan (the Dragon in Revelation 12 - middle of Tribulation), and defeat him and his fallen angels and trap them all on the Earth for the final Battle.
Angels excel in strength... and are very powerful, and do the bidding of the Lord, they are obedient and listen to God's voice. - Psalm 103:20 " Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. " {that excel...: Heb. mighty in strength}
Angels do not operate outside the commandment of the Lord. That doesnt mean that God controls all of their actions, they are sentient beings themselves. But they come as a messenger of God. They listen to Gods Word and voice!
Jesus told us to pray this way, - Matthew 6:10 " Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. " - The will of God is done among the host of heaven in God's presence... this is suggested here.
They are not some kind of super humans, but are of a different order altogether.
I am not trying to be a science fiction fanatic here, but they are extraterrestrial or from off of Earth literally... they come from another world literally. They arent aliens like on the X-Files or Star Trek, but they are extradimensional servants of the Lord... spiritual beings that is not of this earth. In fact, they were in existence before the Earth.
They are created beings... they weren't born like you and me, but was created by God Himself. - Hebrews 2:7; Colossians 1:16; Nehemiah 9:6;and also Psalm 148:2, 5
Psalm 148:2 " Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. "
Psalm 148:5 " Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created. "
All through the scriptures that I will use in each point, notice that there is inherent worship in most of them. They were created for God and do actively worship Him. When you see the holy angels, you see worship and obedience unto God.
More details on some of these general points:
THE ANGELS WILL HAVE A PART WITH THE SAINTS OF GOD IN THE DAY OF THE LORD AS PART OF THE HOSTS OF HEAVEN!
2 Thessalonians 1:7-8 " 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:"
Matthew 16:27 " For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. "
Matthew 25:31 " When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: "
Mark 8:38; Revelation 1:7; Revelation 19:14-16
These armies are both angels as seen above, and saints of God... or those who have been resurrected in the first resurrection... the saints of God!
Jude 1:14 " And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, "
