THERE ARE TIMES WHERE THE VOICE OF THE LORD IS CALLED THE "ANGEL OF THE LORD"... FOR THE MESSAGE, OR THAT JESUS IS SAID TO BE A MESSENGER OF GOD
With Abraham: Genesis 22:11-12; " 11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here [am] I. 12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son] from me. "
Genesis 22:15-18 " 15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, 16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son]: 17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which [is] upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; 18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. "
Moses: Exodus 3:1-6
To John in the Revelation about Jesus Christ: Revelation 10:1-3; Revelation 14:14-16
ANGELS APPEAR ON EARTH WITH A MISSION... THEY ARE MESSENGERS!
They come with a message to deliver to man.
Sometimes they come as messengers of war... and help the people of God.
Sometimes they come as messengers of destruction from God.
Sometimes they come as messengers of deliverance.
They move as messenger of God on a mission.
        SOME ATTRIBUTES OF ANGELIC BEINGS
Angels have spiritual bodies that can lay down to rest, although its doubtful that they need it, and can eat and drink and did so a number of times.
Genesis 18:8 " And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set [it] before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. "
This is more important than you might think as "demons" or unlean spirits are disembodied by nature and seeking a body to use. Matthew 12:43-45; Mark 5:10-13
And on the contrary to these examples, angels have bodies... can eat, and touch you and be totally physical. Daniel 10:10-12
Angels are used in both observing for the Lord and for bringing judgement to cities and individuals.
Genesis 19:1-22 - Lot at Sodom and Gomorrah
They eat here as well and have personal spirit bodies. - Genesis 19:3-4
Genesis 19:3-4 " 3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, [even] the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: "
They are not only observers reporting all in the midst to the Lord, but they are instruments of judgement for the Lord. - Genesis 19:13 " For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it. "
Have powers to strike men blind, and to bring fire upon the cities under God's direction. Genesis 19:11; and although the Word says that God rained down fire from heaven, the angels according to verse 13 had a part in it.
In fact they were the servants of the Lord that God sent for that task. They were sent in to see first hand how bad the cities really were.
They had physical features which the unholy, sinful Sodomites desired. They seemed like very good looking men, so much so that the corrupt men in Sodom desired them. Genesis 19:5
Brought deliverance to the only righteous people in the city: Genesis 19:12-13
These were very powerful angels... and were used in part with God to destroy the cities of the plain.
Angels are sent sometimes to turn people away from doing evil to the people of God. The example of Balaam comes to mind, and while Balaam could not see the angel with the sword, his donkey could. Numbers 22:23-31
One angel is mightier than many, many human warriors. Take a look at this example.
Isaiah 37:33-36 " 33 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it. 34 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD. 35 For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. 36 Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they [were] all dead corpses. " - 2 Chronicles 32:21; 2 Kings 19:32-35
One angel... how many? One! One angel went out and killed of the Assyrians (ancient Iraqis) 185,000 warriors. I want you to think about this. How powerful are angels, really? How much are they held back by the hand of the Lord in what they do? What could they really do if unleashed? Think about the statement that Jesus said about legions of angels to Peter.
Another example is seen when David was numbering Israel to raise an army... totally against the will of God. The pestilence that killed 70,000 men came from the work of a single angel.
2 Samuel 24:15-17
Angels are sentient creatures with Emotions. So, they have both feelings and thoughts of their own. They are not some ghostly robot that simply is like a machine, but they have free will as you or I and can think and feel.
Luke 15:10 " Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. " - does not specifically say that it is angels, but it probably is.
Jude 1:6 - the passions of fallen angels who are held in the abyss. By the way, this scripture in Jude has to do with fallen angels - it quotes the pseudipegraphical book of 1 Enoch in fact which gives a very long description of the fall of these certain angels in the infancy of man's existence on Earth.
Angels have curious minds... they in fact want to understand the deep things of the Spirit that are given by the Gospel.
1 Peter 1:11-12 " 11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. "
Desire to understand grace and the gospel... they are created beings not redeemed.
Angels are sentient beings with intelligence and wisdom: 2 Samuel 14:20; Matthew 24:36
The Church (body of Christ) is teaching the angels the wisdom of God through the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 3:10 " To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly [places] might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
Angels have their own languages: 1 Corinthians 13:1 " Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. "
