DO YOU EVER FEEL LONELY
Are you lonely tonight? Honestly, I am not about to break out into an Elvis song, but loneliness is something that is crippling. I know this from my own experience. Loneliness and its cousin, depression are things that have a very destructive effect on our lives if left to do their work.
Have you ever felt really, really alone? Have you ever felt like even though there might be people around you that you were totally alone in what you were going through and that nobody was there who could understand or go through it with you? Have you?
If you haven't, then you are an exceptional or perhaps an unusual person. Because it is one of those things in the human condition when we feel alone. Jesus even felt that way in the garden when He went to the garden to pray. It is a think that man goes through, but if we truly belong to the Lord and are born again, are we truly ever alone?
Let me ask you another question. Have you ever felt like your prayers were not going anywhere? Have you ever felt that your prayers were not going any further than the ceiling? I have had people say that to me before. But I put this to you. If you are a child of God and have been born of the Spirit, then the Holy Spirit is there in you revealing the Lord Jesus Christ in your life. In other words, the Spirit is with you if you are saved and through Him Jesus. Have you ever thought that maybe you didn't have to get past the ceiling... because the Lord is right there listening to you already?
I want to give you a few promises from God's Word that Jesus Christ gave to His disciples... to His followers:
Romans 8:9-10 (KJV) " 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousn If you are born again, then you have the Spirit of God. In fact, Jesus said in John 3 that you must be born again and went on and talked of being born of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit brings Jesus into our lives and gives us NEW LIFE in HIM.
Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV)19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. " Jesus promised when He gave the great commission that we would be able to do this because He was with them. How? Through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit reveals Jesus in us and lets Jesus be in us. We are not alone and the things that we do are not done by our own power, but through the power of God. JESUS IS ALWAYS WITH US!
AND THE MAIN TEXT: John 14:23-24 (KJV)23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. "
YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I want you to understand that. I made a statement years ago that I have been seriously challenged over, but it still stands true. Sometimes God will allow you to be challenged... a trial of your faith... both as a witness to others and yourself, and to edify and build you into a stronger vessel for Him. Job is the greatest example of that. God allowed the trial that Job went through and prospered him mightily and gave us a great witness through his experience. But God was with Job through it all and revealed himself at the end of the trial. But I made the statement that I could lose everyone including my family and wife and everything from vehicles to home, and as long as I still had Jesus, I would overcome! Its a hard thing to be tested over, but it is still true. Jesus Christ is always with us and because of that, WE CAN ALL DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO LOVES US!
Philippians 4:12-14 (KJV) " 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. "
I can be blessed or suffer need and go through trials, but I am not doing it alone and I am able to do it and do all things through Jesus Christ... He is my strength! In the end, He is the ONLY ONE that you can truly depend on and He is the only one who will not leave you. Others might go so far, but they are limited by their own humanity and weaknesses. Even someone who loves you can only go so far. But Jesus not only loves you like none other, but through the Spirit of God is always with you... HE IS YAHWEH SHAMMAH... The Lord God who is there!
JESUS CHRIST SAID... hold on now, lets look at who is speaking. According to John chapter 1, this is the living LOGOS or Word of God who became flesh. John 14:6 lets us know that He is the way, the TRUTH, and the life... the words that He speaks are spirit and are truth... they are life! So, lets look at who it is that is speaking.
This isn't some empty promise spoken in the dark or for convenience, but this is the LIVING WORD OF TRUTH SPEAKING TO US! JESUS CHRIST SAID... first, if we love Him, then we will keep Jesus' words. We will keep His commandments and have faith in Him. We won't walk by our own understanding, but out of love we will obey Him knowing that He is right and HE has the right to tell us what we should be and do. In fact, He empowers us to do that. That is what faith is. Jesus said that if we love Him, first we will be WORD WALKING PEOPLE.
And in fact, in verse 24, Jesus says THAT IF WE DO NOT KEEP HIS SAYINGS THAT WE DO NOT LOVE HIM! Do you love Jesus? Are you walking in the Word of God, or in excuses?
So, this is conditional... actually all the promises in God's Word are conditional and is the nature of a Covenant Relationship. Jesus said that if you love Him, then you will keep His commandments... then THERE IS A WONDERFUL PROMISE ATTACHED TO THIS WORD FROM OUR LORD!
Jesus said that His Father... Yahweh, the Heavenly Father would love us, and would COME TO US. I know that God is everywhere (we call that being omnipresent), but God out of love and caring will at times manifest MORE OF HIS PRESENCE and manifest Himself and His love and direction in your life. Look, when the children of Israel were walking through the desert, God was all through the desert, but He led them with the pillar of fire and cloud by day. And He manifested to Moses to the extent that Moses actually glowed from being the khabod or glory of God. God can come to you and manifest Himself as YOUR FATHER!
And yes, for God so loved the world... aren't you glad that He loved you before that you loved and even knew Him? But there is a new dimension to this love when we are born again and belong to Him and WALK IN HIS WORD. We become the faithful... walking in faith in God's Word. And He comes to us and loves us... the Father loves us. Think about this. The Creator of the Universe becomes YOUR OWN ABBA... PAPA... DADDY... FATHER! That is a dynamic that is awesome! Can you imagine the kind of love that it takes for God to love us as His own Children?
JESUS SAID that the Father and Jesus both would come to us! I have gone from "you" to "us" because I just enjoy reminding myself that this promise is to me, also!
GOD THE FATHER AND GOD THE SON will come and MAKE THEIR ABODE WITH US! They live in us! Hey, He is Here! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
Do you feel alone sometimes? Sure you do... that's the flesh giving us those feelings. Sometimes we hurt. Sometimes we feel like that nobody else has any idea what we are going through or even who that we are. Have you ever been there? Hmmmmm... I have. BUT GOD KNOWS YOU! And the Lord is there if you are born again and walking in Him!
How can the Father and Son come to us? Through the power of the other Comforter... or paracletos... one who stands closer than a brother by your side... the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God reveals and brings Jesus and the Father both into our lives. It is a spiritual supernatural thing. It is beyond the flesh and fleshly limits, but it is by the Spirit of the Lord!
John 14:14-16 (KJV) " 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; "
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV) " 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. "
2 Corinthians 6:16 (KJV) " And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. "
We are literally the house or the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Our bodies are even sanctified to be a vessel for the Holiness of God. I want that to sink in. Not only are you not alone, but you are special! You have been set aside and made holy to carry this treasure of the presence of God. And He makes us holy! He reveals Jesus Christ in us... and that opens up to us by faith.
But know this... God is here with us, but sometimes we have that need for Him to manifest to us... to refresh us... to have more of Himself manifested to us. There really is a way that we can have that. First... it is through faith and through our worship of Him. See, worship is love in action. We are loving and showing reverence to God... the love goes up from us, and when we become true worshipers, then God is going to come to us and manifest His presence and power to us.
Matthew 18:20 (KJV) " For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. "
John 4:23-24 (KJV) " 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. "
Not only will true worship that is based on the Word and the Spirit will draw the presence of the Father. He will "seek" true worshipers... and when 2 or 3 get together in faith and worship together... then Jesus promised to be in their midst. He is going to move!
GOD IS GOING TO MOVE... as He did with Paul and Silas in the Roman jail after that they had been beaten and put into stocks, they PRAYED and SANG PRAISES UNTO GOD and at the darkest hour... at the LONELIEST HOUR... at midnight, God showed up and shook them free with an earthquake and opened an opportunity to save the jailer and his family.
Are you lonely tonight? Understand that you are not alone. Pray with faith for God is already there! You don't have to get past the ceiling if God is living in you! Just pray with faith and be thankful and worship and the presence of God will move! Know that the Bible also says this...
1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV) " There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. "
In other words, it might seem like something unique has happened to you, but it has and is happening to others. But know that God is faithful... He is here... and He will not let you be tempted above that level that you can bear. He is your way and He will give you a way to bear it!
He is here... hallelujah! He is here... amen! KNOWING THIS TRUTH will give you victory over loneliness. You are not alone... instead of giving into this dark emotion, pray and rejoice in the Lord for His is here (there)! Amen!
May God bless you!
